Schools team up to showcase maths and engineering talents
Schools in and out of the Sigma Trust joined together to take part in two pre-Christmas fun competitions.
The annual North Essex Mathematical Olympiad (NEMO) and the VEX Christmas Clash have become popular end-of-year events in the local school calendar.
And so it proved once again with both events seeing schools from across Colchester and beyond do battle at the home of hosts, St Helena School.
The NEMO competition saw groups of students tackling the maths-related, problem-solving puzzles.
Organisers said the event encouraged students to work together and think outside the box. It was also great to bring together students from across different schools, as well as offering their maths teachers the chance to network with peers.
The focus was on engineering at the VEX Christmas Clash where students guided their self-built robots in teamwork and skills challenges to bid for a place in the national finals.
The tournament is a great way for students to showcase their engineering skills as well as teaching students the importance of teamwork and working together.
We would like to thank everyone who organised and supported both events which were another great success.
