Students in Action
Sigma7 Ideas Competition
During the autumn term Year 7 students across the Trust’s secondary schools participated in the inaugural Sigma 7 Project; an educational ideas competition, run on behalf of the trust by 7billionideas. The initiative challenged students to create an idea ‘that could change the world’, which the teams then presented with a written brief, designs and prototypes. The challenge certainly ignited the students’ creativity and there were some fantastic projects produced.
The winning teams from each of the Trust’s secondary schools converged on the University of Essex for the finals just before Christmas. They had to present their ideas to each of the four judges who questioned them on their development and ‘future’ plans for their ideas. There were some amazing ideas put forward by the young students that made the judges’ decisions even harder.
Congratulations to the team from Harwich & Dovercourt High School, who had designed a fantastic wristband that helps to deter biting or stinging insects, such as bees, wasps and mosquitoes. Many thanks to the team from 7billionideas for organising the competition and well done to all the teams who participated from all the Sigma Trust schools.
