Nick Pavitt – Chair of the Sigma Trust

Nick has 12 years’ experience at secondary Headship. Since retiring he has served as the School Improvement Partner working for a number of schools across 5 Local Authorities. Nick was the Chair of the Interim Executive Board for Ramsden Hall Residential SEMH School, Billericay and is currently a governor of White Hall Academy, Clacton-on-Sea (one of the largest primary schools in Essex).

Jeff Brindle - Chief Executive Officer of the Sigma Trust.

Prior to being appointed CEO, Jeff was Principal of Clacton County High School for 9 years and, in his last year in charge, saw the school achieve the highest Progress 8 outcomes in Essex. Jeff taught Maths for 36 years in a range of schools across London, Surrey and Essex. He is passionate about collaborative working between schools and played a key role in the establishment of North East Essex Education Partnership (NEEEP), the predecessor of Sigma. He has a keen interest in curriculum innovation and believes this is a key ingredient in maximising the outcomes for all pupils, particularly those from the most disadvantaged backgrounds. Jeff has also been Chair of the Management Board of North East Essex Additional Provision School (NEEAPS) since 2013.

Carol Carlsson Browne

Carol was a solicitor for 12 years before going into teaching. She taught for 9 years in a range of primary schools in North Essex and went on to become a primary strategy consultant with Essex County Council. In 2008 Carol was appointed Headteacher of a 4 form entry Infant and Nursery School and retired in 2014. She is Chair of Trustees at Premier Learning Trust in Clacton.

Clive Bull

Clive has recently retired from Local Authority Procurement where he specialised in buying care for older people. Clive’s early career was as an IT professional during which he built computer systems in an international environment. Currently, Clive is also a Trustee for St Helena Hospice and is working for Macmillan to create a business case for end of life care for underserved people in North East Essex.

Adrian Leggett

Adrian has a B.A (Hons) in Economics from Sheffield University in 1989 and M.Sc. in Information Systems in Management from Sheffield Business School in 1995. Adrian became a consultant in 2002 specialising in Local Government and the modernisation agenda, and in so doing developed specialisms in problem diagnosis and solving, organisational reviews, benchmarking, change management and cultural management. Since 2006, Adrian has applied these skills as a Senior Project Manager on a number of challenging of Academy projects, and developed skills and experience of stakeholder consultation, procurement, and project management. In this way Adrian has played a part in opening over 60 Academies and 5 Free Schools, including setting up 7 MATs and 2 Umbrella Trusts.

Kay Maddox-Daines

Dr Kay Maddox-Daines is an experienced HR and organisational development consultant with over twenty years’ management experience across the private and public sectors, including both further and higher education. She is an accredited Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) senior tutor, writing for academic publication in the areas of strategic management and leadership and delivering a range of courses for universities and education providers. Kay has recently been appointed as Director of Human Resources for the Samuel Ward Academy Trust.

Steve McGrath - Vice Chair of the Sigma Trust

Steve is an experienced manager of communications and IT, with a background in high security data processing. He served for 37 years in the RAF and achieved the rank of Warrant Officer. After leaving the RAF Steve became the Network Manager at Clacton County High School for 11 years until he retired in 2012. An experienced governor with 15 years on the Governing Body of Clacton County High School, becoming Chair in 2016.

Bharat Parmar

Bharat is a qualified Civil Engineer currently working as Senior Estimator with Bouygues UK. He has over 37 years’ contracting experience in the UK, Middle East and India on various building projects from £ 0.5M - £100M in Education, Refurbishment, Social Housing, Health and Heritage sectors. He is keen to combine vocational, analytical and professional skills to give back and serve the needs of a diverse population, motivated by community service, transparency, fairness and meeting targets. He has also participated as fund-raiser and co-ordinator since 1999 in Educational charities CAREducation Trust and BEHT who provide local NGOs schools and boarding for less privileged children in India and East Africa.

Bradley Powell

Bradley works for Birkett long LLP as a solicitor at the Colchester office in Crouch Street. His main area of work is commercial property, and he also deals with landlord and tenant matters for residential property. Bradley has lived in Colchester since April 2014. His wife is from Colchester, and he visited the town frequently before moving here. He was originally from Treorchy in South Wales.
